Most of the rules of thumb for mills refer only to diameter, so you'd be as well to make a jar the same diameter that you usually use but far shorter. You could look at making a mill 100mm or 150mm diameter and only say 10 to 15mm long, maybe you'd have to make it inside a longer piece of pipe.
